Before
After!
Pierre (Perfect in every way-nothing but love) was struck by a car and left to fend for himself. He lived with a family, yet they abandoned him and drove him to an empty lot to fend for himself. He survived the accident but was left with a damaged shoulder nerve that caused unbalanced coordination in both front legs.
A local neighbor contacted VEPA and we quickly flew him to LA for some TLC.
He now is part of a incredibly loving, nurturing family where he quickly learned to walk again and runs the beaches!
Before (at the refuge, Mexico)
After!
Charly was found in the grounds of the local one-airplane airport in Uruapan at 1 month old. Volunteers rescued her along with a handful of pups.
Charlie proved to be highly adoptable with her happy personality. This girl never had a rainy day...she finds happy in anything, just look at that smile. She embodies the definition of fun times. At the sanctuary in Mexico she was involved in every raucous activity and always initiated all doggie games.
She now lives the life she deserves with a generous family we were fortunate to meet, has two human siblings that adore her and a mom and dad that treasure her.

Nena was found starving on the side of a road along with a litter in the town of Uruapan. Local volunteers rescued and nurtured the puppies and Nena to health.
Brave, sweet Nena loves being around her family, and likes to be playful with her brother Gizmo. Every morning she walks with her parents to take her human sister Ella to school. She also takes a lot of room on her parents bed :)
She is truly noble, special, thanks to her three other dogs were adopted.
Nena now lives a beautiful life with a family that cherishes her.

Ari & Dori These sweet sisters became the perfect partners to go with their parents on adventures, hikes, beach trips and camping...as well as lounging around at home.
Dori is the popular girl at the coffee shop while Ari is a bit more reserved. They both love to go hunting for pine cones on their walks.
Together they were found as puppies in the cemetery in the town of Uruapan. Their mom had been poisoned and they had taken refuged inside a tomb. One of the volunteers had to climb down and into a tunnel to get them out. They were taken to the sanctuary and raise them as the healthy and beautiful doggies they are now.
They are one of the adoption miracles Nena made possible as their parents wanted to adopt Nena but when they met this pair decided to offer them their loving home and keep them together. These two sisters started a hard life together and thanks to the love of adoptive parents will live a full amazing live by each other's side.

Chia (little dogzilla) waiting patiently near a food vendor at a corner was this little 4 month old doggie all matted up and hungry, when a volunteer stopped to get a bite and after seeing her, she could not look the other way. She got her name from the fruit water made of Chia.
We transported Chia to the U.S. after a few months of being cared for in the sanctuary. Her mom fell in love with her picture on a flyer. Chia now lives with her loving adoptive parents and little brother Barry whom she plays with non-stop and he adores her. Her mom has taught her many commands that has made her the queen of tricks for treats, if she knows you have a treat she will perform all her tricks in less than 10 seconds, her mom jokes that Chia sees us as "gumball machines."

Stanley lived on the streets of Mexico where a good samaritan fed him and help tell his story in the hopes of a bright future. Despite the hostile environment of the danger of traffic, mean people beating him and his day to day struggle, Stanley was always friendly, greeting anyone that would call on him.
He stole our hearts and we just wanted like all the other dogs we meet, to be safe in a loving family. The starts aligned and on his second week in the U.S. Stanley met his parents. He is now covered in kisses and is getting all the love he deserves.
Thanks to his loving parents our little guy will never be alone, cold and mistreated ever again.
Koa & Otto
Koa lived on the streets of downtown in a small town in Mexico. When I found her she was exhausted from being surrounded by a group of male dogs, she was hungry and weak. The women from Vepa helped me take her to the veterinary doctor for medical care and was released back on the street after she recovered from her spay surgery. Despite the hostile environment of the danger of traffic and all the everyday struggles she had to endure, Koa kept returning to the vet shop with a smile as if asking to be taken in, the vet notified me and I travelled to pick her up and took her to the sanctuary where she became the guard of all the rescued puppies and small dogs until she was transported to the U.S. to be placed in the beautiful loving home she is part of now with the amazing life she deserves. She has thrived and became a great hunter...Skunks and critters do not stand a chance! She is amazingly well behaved and loves petting. She is also quite the diva as she will wear any accessory and clothing with style. Koa was the inspiration and force for this rescue. Otto was found as a 2 month old puppy at the airport grounds along with two siblings and 3 puppies from a different litter. He had been a shy doggie growing up but very loving and sweet. He was being fostered by Koa's mom and he figure out how to let us know he chose to be part of the family and was adopted by his foster family who adores him. His foster mom has helped him adjust to his new life and improve giant steps towards becoming less shy and more confident. He is the sweetest boy and loves his big sister Koa.
Pingo and Kiki, together with their mom and three sisters, Pingo and Kiki were found as puppies on the side of the road at barely 1 month old in the town of Uruapan. Local volunteers rescued them and raised them as the healthy and beautiful doggies they are now. Pingo was brought to the U.S. in 2017 and due to his shyness he had a hard time finding a home. He luckily found the best family for him! Two loving parents and a new sister Bailey, who he became best playmates and companions. Their parents were the most patient with him until he got comfortable with his dad and is now the happiest and loves his family.
A year later its was his sister’s turn, Kiki to travel to the U.S. and after a playdate with Pingo and his sister Bailey, their loving parents decided to give a home to Kiki and now she has been reunited with her brother and has a new sister, Bailey, they are 3 amigos! Kiki is so happy with her new parents and her bother and sister. Her parents took her to obedience school and she turned out to be one smart cookie! 🍪

Aggie was being chased by other dogs on the street that kept her from getting any food scraps from street vendors when one of our volunteers rescued her from the streets of Uruapan Michoacan, brought her to the sanctuary and nurtured her to health. Aggie was been able to feel safe, show her calm and gentle personality and traveled to the U.S. when ready to share all her wonderful being with her very own family. She has been adopted by a loving couple that gives her all the care and love she needed. She goes on long walks every day, beach trips and plays tennis 🎾 in her backyard. She has a little kitty sibling named Archie.
Harley was found as a puppy with her siblings in the bushes of busy downtown street disoriented. The Vepa team took the puppies to the sanctuary where they grew up healthy. Harley’s siblings got adopted in the town but she was not getting any interest so we brought her to the U.S. as a loving couple had seen her photos online and wanted to adopt her. Harley arrived to San Diego via Tijuana and a few days later meet her future parents in Los Angeles. She was shy at first but her parents fell in love with her even more and she is now a confident and beautiful girl! She has made a lot of friends at daycare and her parents give her all the attention and love she needs.
Clara-Bella was roaming the streets around the sanctuary in bad health but didn’t loose her sweet smile. Clara was a little shy when we got her in the car but little did she know she would no longer go hungry and her mange would be gone. At the Sanctuary she go healthy and made a lot of friends and after 7 months she had a chance to travel to the U.S. in November to look for a forever home. And as a Christmas Miracle she met her loving family in December and spent Christmas with her parents and new little brother Stilts. She now spends her days playing with Stilts, napping in the sun, watching the football games with her dad and Stilts and going on trips to the beach 💓
